VALUE
Established in 1955, Eiseman-Ludmar is a leading U.S. manufacturer of dress uniform accessories. Our reputation is known throughout the country and abroad for offering the highest quality products in our industry. There are plenty of companies out there offering something cheaper – but there is nobody offering something better: shoulder boards, collar brass, lace, chin straps or any of the other thousands of hard-to-find items we manufacture and distribute. We believe that you get what you pay for. America’s uniformed personnel deserve the best.
We are located in Hicksville, NY – about 20 miles east of New York City on Long Island. We have been at this location since 1987, which we have expanded to include manufacturing, embroidery and corporate headquarters. Unlike most American companies over the past several decades, we have increased the amount of manufacturing right here in our New York facility. It is our belief that American workers make the highest quality products, and for the specialty items that are our focus, nobody can do it better. If you want commodity items like tube socks or pencils, China makes them all day long at decent quality – a million at a time. But if you need eighteen bright nylon shoulder cords to be the finishing touch for a parade dress uniform, or if you want collar brass that does not look like the prize in a Cracker Jack box, or if you want a shoulder board that will not fall apart or fade after a couple uses, there is no other place to shop. That is the difference between price and value. That is the Eiseman-Ludmar difference, and it is why we are proud to have our name on every box we ship.
HISTORY
In 1955 Abraham Duke Eiseman and his brother-in-law Joseph Ludmar formed Eiseman-Ludmar Co., Inc. With offices on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan they sold two products for the United States Army Dress Cap: the green fur felt cap body and the gold bullion scrambled egg visor embroidery. These two products sustained the company through the 1970’s. Both items were imported from the Far East at a time when international travel was not the common experience it is today. Joe was among the first westerners to set foot in some of the places he ventured, in search of talented embroiderers and quality materials.
By the 1980’s the army went with a more affordable poly/wool blended fabric, and the fur felts became obsolete. Although we had branched out into other types of cap visors: airline, police & fire, other military branches diversification was required for survival. Duke and Joe had passed away, and in 1983 Joe’s son, Andrew Ludmar, came into the business with his wife, Carol. Andy added several new product lines: chin straps, cap devices, gold bullion hand embroideries, cuffs and hat bands. The fashion industry became an important customer, as we became the prime manufacturer of the Polo/Ralph Lauren crest, featured on everything from blazers to slippers.
The 1990’s saw further expansion into American made collar brass, hard and soft shoulder boards, shoulder knots, shoulder cords and parade ropes. Andy & Carol’s son, David, joined the company in 1996, to oversee our Department of Defense contracts for decorative citation cords and help manage the growth of the firm. In 2006, the Ludmar’s formed ELC Industries and purchased the assets of the braid division of the A.H. Rice Company, America’s leading manufacturer of uniform braid for over 125 years. With hard work, perseverance, and a great team at our Rock Hill, SC location, ELC has restored the Rice Braid brand and grown the company. We look forward to continued expansion in the future, and we are glad to have the opportunity to reach new customers via our web sites and the ease that on-line electronic transactions can provide.
